En décembre 2008, la Chine fait son coming-out. Le régime de Pékin fête en grande pompe les trente ans de la « nouvelle Chine », née en 1979 avec l’ouverture économique lancée par Deng Xiaoping. Ce pays libéral-communiste assume désormais un capitalisme mondialisé dont il est en train de devenir le maître. La Chine, le nouvel empire du monde est le récit du « miracle chinois ». En trente ans, le pays est devenu une hyperpuissance économique, militaire, scientifique, culturelle et sportive.
Comment la Chine communiste de Mao Zedong a-t-elle pu devenir le plus performant des grands pays capitalistes ? Comment une puissance impériale qu’on croyait vieille et fatiguée a pu renaitre de ses cendres pour se hisser au rang d’unique concurrent à l’hégémonie américaine ?
